Are money myths holding you back?
Are you constantly worried about money? These worries are most likely stopping you from taking the necessary steps to build your wealth. The first step to achieving financial independence is to conquer any negative thoughts associated with money.
Many people have a deep-seated fear of making more money and have set a ceiling in their minds with a limit to how much money is acceptable. They think that making more money will change them as a person, and other people will no longer like them. Many people subconsciously think that money is bad or that building wealth will lead to something bad. Many people hang on to the saying that ‘Money can’t buy you happiness’ to justify why they shouldn’t aim for greater wealth. Whilst I completely agree that money itself will not make you happy, there is no doubt that an abundance of money will give you the freedom to live the life you want. This freedom and the experiences that you can enjoy living a life of abundance will undoubtedly contribute to greater happiness.
In my experience, having regard to all the people I have met through my own wealth creation journey, having more money simply makes you more of what you already are. If you are greedy and self-centred to begin with, more money will just expose you for what you are. On the other hand, if you are a loving, giving person who wants to make a difference in the world, more wealth will give you the ability and drive to be even more giving. I have been fortunate to meet so many successful and wealthy individuals who use their wealth to create positive change in our world and make a difference, and I find this inspiring. I truly believe that with more wealth, you have more opportunities to impact the world in a positive way.
The first step is to remove any negative thoughts or ideas you currently have about wealth and money and give yourself the opportunity to dream. Start by identifying any negative thoughts holding you back. These thoughts may be associated with old sayings that you heard as a kid, like ‘Money is the root of all evil’, ‘Money doesn’t grow on trees’, or ‘People with money are greedy’. The other thing that could be holding you back is your circle of friends. Perhaps everyone in your circle of friends is on a similar income and has a similar standard of living. Perhaps subconsciously you are worried that your friends will not accept you if you are wealthier than them and want different things for your current and future life.
The good news is that whatever it is that is holding you back, it’s probably just in your head and has absolutely no truth. I could give you thousands of examples that would prove that wealth will not turn you into a bad or greedy person and I know for a fact that true friends will continue to love and respect you regardless of your income and your wealth. Ultimately you need to realise, the only thing holding you back from building wealth that will give you your desired lifestyle now and in the future, is in fact YOU!
